At McCoppin we believe in offering students a diverse education and preparing for the future. Technology plays a huge part in all aspects of our every day lives and can be a fascinating medium for kids to explore and exercise their creativity.

In 2017 the PTO began planning and fundraising for the development of a MakerSpace.  After a year of hard work and many meetings we are proud to announce the MakerSpace is ready for use.

The MakerSpace provides a space for tinkering and creating.  Students have access to cutting-edge technologies including robotics, snap circuits, coding, movie-making and numerous supplies for creating.  The MakerSpace is a place where all students can try out their ideas, make mistakes, collaborate and work together.  In addition to technology and tinkering, students and teachers will be starting  project-based learning and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The PTO is fundraising to hire a part-time teacher dedicated to the MakerSpace but in the meantime we are seeking any and all volunteer support.  Of particular interest is volunteers who can come on a regular / semi-regular basis (eg: once a week, every-other-week) to help the teachers during MakerSpace time, or even lead a class if you are daring (!).  We are flexible to meet volunteers’ schedule and interest, and are happy to discuss further.
